A Legacy of Building Since 1954
Smith Construction, Inc. began with Stewart Smith. From 1952 to 1954, he worked for the Georgia Highway Department, where he learned how large projects come together. In 1954, he started his own company and put that knowledge to work building homes and doing plastering in a large subdivision.
As the building boom that followed World War II carried into the 1960s, the company took on a growing number of projects in and around Rome, Georgia. That early work earned a reputation for dependable craftsmanship and set the tone for the decades ahead.
Decades of Experience Across Many Project Types
From the 1970s through the 1990s, the company’s range grew well beyond homebuilding. Our crews renovated power company offices, built industrial plants, and completed medical offices. We also delivered frozen food storage facilities, renovated churches and courthouses, constructed retail stores, and built and renovated banks.
Every one of those jobs added to our knowledge, and we still draw on it today. More than 70 years later, that experience shapes how we plan, build, and work with our clients.
